In this video you will see you how to research, build, and install an Art Deco-style highway overpass on your HO model railroad train layout. Watch as you see how to kitbash a bridge using kits from Walthers, Micro Engineering, and Rix Products.
The highway overpass in this video is a model of a real structure that carried the Missouri-Kansas-Texas and Missouri Pacific Railroads over U.S. 50 in Sedalia, Missouri. This unique bridge included two spans, one for each railroad. The MP tracks were removed in the early 1980’s, while the old Katy tracks remained in operation by Union Pacific for industrial switching until the late 1990’s.
Very cool video
Excellent work! You can always add the rust, dents and deformities of the bottom of the girder spans from too-tall trailers later.
You should do a video on how you make your railroad crossing
I thought that looked familiar when I saw it. I only saw it once or twice when I was in Sedalia. If you ever want to do another MKT / Highway bridge is the New Franklin Viaduct.
I love this bridge! Masterpiece in action. Great job!
Hi Mike, If you like to build bridges, I have one you could do ! I hope mine turns out as good as yours did. Awesome job. What's the word on the foot bridge near commercial street. Are they going to repair it?
One or two of those types of bridges still exist complete with trains in my hometown. That pedestrian walkway reminds me of the many times I walked through a bridge just like this one. And at all times of day and night when I was younger. One kept ones eye over his shoulder when walking through at certain times of night. Not well lit and not in the best part of downtown. A beautiful model. And as far as taking up track to make a hiking trail…that to me is just sad.
Thanks for sharing! Outstanding work sir.
Very nice video new subscriber looks awesome
Mike-
Great update & much appreciated!
Have a question:
Your clearance sign on the bridge says 12’6”
The picture says 13’9”
So, did the state dig the road down for clearance from earlier years?
From a Sedalia person who now lives in Springfield – great job! That bridge was a few blocks from Smith-Cotton and in its original form a great memory. Thanks for sharing!
Great information! Awesome job on building the underpass on the layout and showing what you used
A very nice video and layout. I have plans for a bridge on my own layout, though it will be more for trains to go over than an overpass.
Mike you did an awesome job on that overpass, you have given me some ideas on the overpass (MO 5) over the Franklin MO yard when I start building my layout.
It's a sweet bridge! Nice kit batch!
This overpass made its first appearance here on the channel during my first layout update video: https://youtu.be/UTt7khW4O58
